Joey Sabol is one busy guy. Joey recently started the doctoral program in Education Technology at Pepperdine University and is using Learnist to help study for his courses. Joey mentions, “Some of the boards I have created so far include research on metacognition, how people learn, flow theory and cyberlearning. These boards and others to come will help organize my research for my dissertation. Some of my fellow Pepperdine students collaborate and share information with each other via Learnist.”
Joey goes on to tell us how he plans on using Learnist as a place to store resources as he home schools his two boys during the day. “I plan to integrate Learnist into their curriculum for second and fifth grades. I am especially excited about how all of our online resources that can be stored and sequenced in one location. In science, they are studying creatures that swim and I want them to develop boards that illustrate opposing opinions regarding evolution and intelligent design theories. For history I envision them designing boards with timelines and showing the causes & effects of the Civil and both World Wars.
Joey also has plans on using Learnist to highlight and archive family achievements. “My wife and I are always looking for opportunities to showcase what our boys are doing in home school and Learnist will be a great way to have a virtual open house complete with videos from their fencing, piano and swim lessons. I always emphasize that my two boys are responsible for their own learning and Learnist will be the perfect tool for them!”
Not only is Joey busy working on a doctoral program and home schooling his boys, but he also teaches college algebra at Cal Baptist University in Riverside, CA at night. He goes on to say how he plans on using Learnist with his math students, “I will be using learning boards with my math students. I am going to create a board for each chapter or unit study that will be filled with resources and examples of how algebra is connected to real life situations. I know my students will appreciate being able to access Learnist on their smartphones and tablets. Many of my students work full-time jobs during the day and are enrolled in online courses or evening classes in a face to face format. In either case, they will benefit from the individualized instruction that can be received from boards that can focus on problem solving skills or gaps in their previous learning. Even the math movies that I make for my students can be posted on Learnist.”
